10 Action Ideas To Effortless Exercising
Article by Mary Lennox

Most of us want to be able to slip into our summer togs and reveal a little more flesh as summer approaches. For many people, going to a gym regularly is either not possible due to work and family commitments. There are also others who quite simply would not enjoy this pursuit in the pursuit of fitness. On purpose, I have chosen to write this article as we are moving towards the tail end of summer. The suggestions I make are ones which can generally be incorporated into our lives throughout the year. Now is probably a good time to start as it will also add to the structure of the more dreary months ahead, offering opportunity for fun and socialising.

1.TRAMPOLINING lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease and increases bone density. There is less pressure on weight bearing joints and is therefore a useful exercise for those who have been largely sedentary. It also helps to inc...

 Exercise Programs
Article by Ken Marlborough

People exercise for different reasons. Weight loss, toning, muscle building, bodybuilding are a few general reasons for exercising. An exercise program is a set of exercise routines that are recommended for an individual based on his or her specific health conditions and exercise requirements. Various combination of exercise is included in an exercise program to meet the goals. For instance, if a person wants to lose weight, then stretching, aerobics and strength training twice a week is commonly recommended. On the other hand, if a person wishes to build the muscles, then the exercise program is adjusted to a combination of stretching and strength training with only fifteen minutes of aerobics thrice a week.

As public awareness of the benefits of exercise increases, so does the number of experts in designing exercise programs. Therefore, it is important to have a realistic exer...

Know Where You are Really Starting From if You Want to Reach Your Goals
Article by Heather Moreno

It is common when someone finds out that I am a fitness professional to give me a 20-second synopsis of their fitness habits and then to ask me, “What should I be doing?” My response is always, “I don’t know.” This shocks a lot of people because they expect me to answer immediately with a detailed fitness regimen. Why can’t I do that?

I can’t give them any immediate advice because I don’t know what their baseline is. A baseline is a measurement of where you are starting from. Common baselines include measurements such as body weight, body fat percentage, cholesterol, and blood pressure. These are important measurements, but even more are needed.

A baseline ideally measures behaviors as wells as statistics. While data such as your body fat percentage is valuable, it is unrealistic to set goals based solely on this information. You also need to asses your current ac...

 Exercise Equipment
Article by Ken Marlborough

The importance of regular exercise is obvious to everyone today. However, most people have a busy schedule into which they have to squeeze in the time for exercise. Therefore, they prefer the of use exercise equipments that helps to maximize the benefits of exercise within a limited time frame. For instance, a person who does three sets of twelve repetitions of sit-ups may benefit equally or, perhaps more from working for three to five minutes on an abdominal machine. Thus, these equipments not only help in increasing the quality of the work out, but also reduce the time required for a desired effect.  Fitting In Fitness-No Matter How Busy Your Day
Article by Mary Pearsall

What is the number one excuse for not exercising? You guessed it. Lack of time. Every time I give a presentation and I ask this question, the members of the audience get it right. Why? Because most of them have used this excuse more than once in their lives. My guess is that you have too.

Finding the time is really much easier than you think. As a matter of fact - it is extremely easy if you change your mindset - just a little. Exercise is just movement - moving your body through space. Moving burns calories. The more you move, the more calories you burn. So, if the thought of fitting exercise into your day just seems impossible in light of all else that consumes your time - try some of the examples below. Before you know it, you will be moving and loving it.

At Home

    • Make extra trips with laundry.

    • Cleaning – lunges while vacuumin...

How to Get Rid of Love Handles
Article by Karen Sessions

Love handles are a growing problem (pardon the pun) for many men and women these days. Love handles is basically a nice way to describe the fat that accumulates on each side of waist.

Media Deception about Love Handles

Many people are unaware or misinformed on how to successfully banish those annoying love handles. Abdominal machine manufactures know people's desperation and play upon this heavily. Once you receive the product you will notice in the fine print of the accompany booklet that a healthy diet should be used with the item for optimal results. Obviously!

Bodybuilders in the past never relied on fancy gadgets to get that desired six-pack. It has always been, and will always be about nutrition, cardio, and abdominal training.

Three Elements that Help to Rid Love Handles

The accumulated fat that widens your waist never seems to dissipate no matter ...

The Ab-Wheel Has Got My Vote as an Ab-Sculpting Device
Article by Foras Aje

Inches and Pounds. That's what people begin to lose from their waistlines within days of using an abdominal exercise device called the Ab Wheel.

The first time I was introduced to it was in the year 2000.

It was while working out in the gym downstairs in our office building. I was using the ‘crunching machine’ thinking I was doing something worth mentioning, when this guy pulled out a device that looked like a wheel with two handles around it.

He challenged me to do 10 repetitions of this abdominal exercise device and imagine the testosterone driven reaction when I sighed and said “please, what the heck can that do?”

A lot.

I tried one repetition and though I made it to about 8 (okay, I’ll never tell you what the exact number was but still…); I knew this ab-wheel thingy was on to something for abdominal exercises.

Your arms, upper back and shoulder...

Skipping Is Good For You In More Ways Than One
Article by Paul J Bryant

People looking to lose weight are always interested in exercising. It’s practically inevitable: if you’re trying to get rid of that spare tire, sooner or later you are going to have to start doing some exercises in order to burn off the extra calories. While taking herbal pills, such as the excellent ProShaperx, to start the weight loss process is a good idea, calories will still refuse to burn themselves off. This means that some effort is required on your part.

Most people go to gyms or start running in the park. These are good options. Gyms always have professional trainers on hand that can help a beginner to plan his routines and can recommend exercises. Running in the park, on the other hand, is a fine way to build stamina and keep the cardiovascular system in shape. And so are skipping, jogging and bicycle riding. Whereas going to the gym costs money, cardiovascular traini...

Starting Out On a Physical Fitness Programme
Article by Mel Richards

When starting out on a fitness training programme it is essential to identify the goals of the programme and to design one with those goals in mind. Most of us have made a decision at some time – usually having been inspired by an article on television or elsewhere in the media - to attempt to "get fit", "keep fit", run a marathon or just lose a few pounds. However, many of us, despite starting out with the best intentions, have completely failed to do any of those things! The vast majority of those failures could have been avoided if we had started out with a clear understanding of what we were trying to achieve and had formulated a balanced and effective programme.

What we wish to achieve must be defined clearly. It is important to be specific about our goals. e.g. It's not enough to say "I want to lose weight" or "I want to run a marathon", we've got to say how much weight we...

Keep an Exercise Diary and Keep Excuses from Getting in the Way of Your Health and Fitness
Article by Jennifer Wetmore

"I have to pick up my kids."
"I had to stay late at work."
"I have to cook dinner for my family."
"I'm too tired."
"I'm intimidated by the gym."
"It's too cold outside."

Most of us already know that we should take the time to exercise, but something always seems to get in the way. Let's face it. We all have plenty of excuses not to exercise. Some of them even seem pretty legitimate. When we share our excuses with others, they sympathize. "I know how you feel," they say.

We know the health benefits of exercise are numerous. It can help control weight, lower cholesterol, give us more energy, regulate blood sugar, reduce the need for some medications and contribute to our well-being and mental health. However, despite what exercise can do for us, something always seems to get in the way.

At times there are real emergencies that demand our...

 Exercise For Toning Hips
Article by Nitin Chhoda

It’s every woman's dream – shapely hip muscles. From a human anatomy point of view, women tend to have larger hips relative to the waist (unlike men) since women tend to store higher amounts of body fat in the hip, buttocks and thighs.

Each person is different and fat gets stored in the body in a certain order. That order is determined by gender and genetics. It’s a myth that women can selectively lose fat in the hip region. In fact, ‘spot reduction’ is something that advertisers use to prey on unsuspecting customers desperate to try anything to shape up certain areas of the body. You have probably wasted time and money on gadgets, weight loss creams and other gimmicks. When one loses weight, the 'reduction' is general i.e all over the body, but never in one 'spot'. Think of the body as if it was a balloon, which inflates and deflates every time, you gain / lose weight.

He...

 Exercises For Lower Abdominal Toning
Article by Nitin Chhoda

Fitness is synonymous with a flat lower abdominal region. Regarded as the aesthetic center of the body, the abdominal region is of vital importance to health and well being. It is important in digestion and stability of the lower back. The muscles of your midsection are not isolated; they weave through your torso like a web of tissues and all muscles need to be trained in a balanced manner. When your abdominal muscles are weak, the muscles of the buttocks (the gluteus maximus) and the back of the thighs (the hamstrings) have to work harder to keep the spine stable.

The secret to developing great abs lies at least partially in ignoring conventional wisdom. For starters, treat your body as a complete unit rather than over emphasizing the waistline. The most common mistake made by most individuals is doing hundreds upon hundreds of abdominal exercises, but neglecting other calorie ...

 Toning Exercise For Women
Article by Nitin Chhoda

According to an Australian study of 7281 subjects, women have unique life reasons that can derail workouts. These include the birth of a child, marriage, single parenthood, a new job, divorce, overworking, job stress and returning to school. Time is a big consideration. After a day of work and childcare, most women prefer to spend their leisure time in socializing with family and friends, reading and watching television, rather than rushing to the treadmill.

It’s just hard to be a girl!

The fact is that exercise has unique benefits for women. Regular exercise lowers estrogen levels, reduces body fat, and produces a healthier body mass index (BMI), all of which significantly reduce the risk of breast cancer, especially in postmenopausal women. In a study of 173 sedentary, overweight postmenopausal women, researchers had half the women do aerobic exercise for 45 minutes, 5 d...

 Choosing A Personal Trainer
Article by Josh Stone

If you're a personal trainer - it's most likely this article is going to offend you. So, be warned.

If you've sticked around long enough on my site, you would have realised by now that I'm not really a big fan of personal trainers. Now, don't get me wrong - this is not because I don't believe they are good, but mainly because I believe there are so many personal trainers out there, who despite the certification they possess, still lack the experience, the knowledge, and most importantly - the personal passion for the pursuit of physical fitness.

I've always believed that a personal trainer needs to walk the walk, and talk the talk! No point trying to motivate someone to lose weight if you're a fat ass yourself, don't you think? Take a look at the available personal trainers at your gym - how fit are they? Or just how full of bullshit are they? If they're supposedly good at...

Reasons for Joining a Gym or Keeping Fit
Article by Josh Stone

I was asked by one of my friends a couple of days ago on the reason I personally am into bodybuilding/getting into shape.. Besides the obvious health benefits.. she wanted to know what drives me. Well, read on...

Hmm. I don't think I've ever really put much thought into this before.. but let me attempt to analyze. I decided to first surf around the net to see what motivated the OTHERS to pursue a similar goal, and here are some of the answers I came across:

Some Reasons People Join the Gym:

1. I'm sick of being skinny as a twig.
2. People say I look sick and unhealthy.
3. When I wear a sleeveless or body hugging shirt, I don't look impressive in it.
4. A muscular man attracts chicks like magnets.
5. I wanna look as fit as the Americans. They're more beefier than the locals.
6. Bodybuilding makes a girl like you!

 Not Enough Time to Exercise
Article by Linda Geyer

Lack of time is the most common excuse for avoiding exercise. As a personal fitness trainer, I hear it all the time, “I’d love to workout but I don’t have time.” My goal is to help you find the time or more importantly, make the time to exercise. There are too many benefits for your health and well being to make excuses not to exercise. The older you are, the more important exercise is to your overall well-being and health. Strength training has been proven to reduce the risk of falls, increases bone density, reduces the symptoms for arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity and back pain. Studies have show exercise to have a profound effect on a person’s mental and emotional health. With all the benefits of exercise and if your health is a priority, you could find the time to exercise.

If you have time to watch television, you have time to exercise. Thes...

Pilates is one of the most rewarding types of exercise because it encompasses stretch, strength and improves flexibility in the safest way while avoiding injury.

Pilates started as a way of rehabilitating athletes and dancers but is now used by millions of people across the globe because it is one of the safest forms of exercise.

Forget going for a run, pounding on pavement with the potential risk of getting shin splints, a knee injury or worse, falling and getting an even more severe injury. Pilates is one of the safest exercise systems in existence. The only equipment used is a floor mat.
